Julia Shirar
Hi, I’m so glad you’re here.
I believe that everyone carries an inner compass—a quiet guide pointing toward growth, meaning, and integration. Therapy with me is about following that compass together, exploring the patterns, relationships, and experiences that shape your life. I hope to help clients build flexibility in their nervous system, tolerate uncertainty, ambiguity, and risk, and discover new ways of creating meaning, even in life’s challenges.
As a depth psychotherapist, I work relationally, paying attention to both the stories you bring and the subtle ways attachment, culture, and nervous system states show up in our interactions. Sessions are exploratory, grounding, and deep, moving fluidly between EMDR, parts work, somatic awareness, polyvagal-informed approaches, dreamwork and creative or symbolic work. Breakthroughs—whether sparked by a dream, an artwork, a bodily sensation, or an EMDR session—can open powerful doorways to self-compassion, insight, or intuition, and I believe their real impact unfolds over time as we return to them again and again.
Many of the people I meet in therapy are moving through grief or untangling patterns of attachment, including adults shaped by emotionally immature parenting or the lasting effects of complex trauma. Others come with anxiety or OCD, or with the curiosity that often accompanies creative blocks and existential questioning. I also work with clients reflecting on identity—whether shaped by cultural roots, queerness, or the experience of growing up between worlds (Adult Third Culture Kids/Multiculturals)—as well as those navigating the complexities of neurodivergence. What they share is a reflective, creative spirit and a readiness to explore their inner world with honesty and depth.
My style is warm, attuned, curious, and playful, with a readiness to challenge when it feels right. I aim to create a space where intensity, creativity, humor, and depth are welcome, and where insight arises from your own reflection and exploration rather than from being told.
I am LGBTQIA-affirmative and committed to holding personal growth within the broader context of culture, relationships, and the societal forces that shape experience and mental health.
In my spare time, you can find me among trees, in cold water, reading, knitting, with my pups, on a yoga mat, or lost in my latest deep-dive hyperfixation.
